1.
a.
will be receiving a $100.00 fine for continued non-compliance.
Possible media attention.
2. DYTUR Update
a. Lisa Peeples-Hurst attended the regional DYTUR meeting recently.
She received black lights as an incentive to tobacco retailers, which
can be used to identify counterfeit money. Compliance checks will
be done in December. Lisa reported that R.J. Reynolds can
suspend the rights of retailers to sell their product if they are non-
compliant. Lisa will be making contact with the retailers that have
had violations.
3. Smokefree Restaurant Brochure
a. Janie Colton presented the final draft to the coalition for proofing.
BCISD will print 150 of these brochures when the final draft has
been approved. It has been suggested that they be delivered
personally to the restaurants that still allow smoking.
b. Any restaurants that DO go smokefree, please notify Kerri so that
they can be added to the County and State list.
4. Legislative Updates
a. HB 4163 will likely be referred to a Senate committee next
Tuesday after passing through the House last night!
Representatives Proos and Nitz voted yes and no respectively.
b. It was reported that R.J. Reynolds sends information and coupons
to people when they reach 18 years old.
IV. Other
1. Grant Update
a.
BCBSM: Lakeshore and
involved in the ‘Teens Against Tobacco Use’ program (TATU)
will be trained to be teen mentors/teachers on Dec. 18 & 19.
Shannon and Kerri thanked Jerry Price for his support and
involvement in TATU.

Janie Colton reported that Lakeshore or
participated in the Michigan Model Training, which is also
required for these schools as part of the TATU program. More
follow up to come.
b. Michigan Gateway Community Foundation: $4,000 grant
received to provide smoking
cessation to
The YMCA of Niles/Buchanan has partnered with us and will be
providing a room for the classes and will also advertise the classes
in their news bulletin. Classes have been scheduled for Jan. 9 –
Feb. 23 and again from March
18 –
2.
Changes in
a. 8 sessions instead of 7 – orientation now a session. Quit Day is
the 4th week now. Medications strongly encouraged. Addiction
theory added plus more emphasis on dealing with grief.
b. BCHD’s classes lowered to $40.00.
3. Misc. : CAASA’s TIC group is doing a poster push at Watervliet
which is addressing either anti-smoking or anti-drinking.
